A Message For the New Year

2010 is now closed.  This is the time we look back at the year gone and remember some of the things and events that effected our lives. There were good things and some things not so good. How did these things or events effect you?  How did it effect your faith?

We can say the good things were great. Perhaps a promotion on the job or getting a job. Maybe getting married, a new baby or you recieved good news about your health. These and other things were blessings. You were thankful. You would praise the Lord for all these events and things.

But, then there were things that wasn’t so good. The loss of your house, the seperation with your mate, the family members not get along or maybe your health has been getting worse. Maybe there was a sin that has had a strong grip on you.  Whatever it was, perhaps it has shaken your faith. 2010 was a year that was a trying one, a year that was difficult. A year of testing. How did you do on the test?

Looking back when those things came, how did you repond? When you found out that your health was failing or that there was a problem, how did you take it?  Did you become depressed, did you go into dispair? What happened when that relationship with your mate or your child became worse? Remember when the good things came to you ….you praised the Lord. How did you do when the bad things happened to you last year? When you lost your home or when you lost your job. When they put you down or when you were so afraid of what might happen. How did you take that test?

James 1:2 says “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into drivers

Those things (tests) that caused problems and the things that caused pain and agony, perhaps, were there to point us to Christ. You see, when we hurt we are to look to the Comforter. When we are depressed or stressed, Christ is the one we look to for peace. He is our healer and He is our provider and without Him we can do nothing.

Trusting Christ when things are bad causes our faith the increase. 1 Peter 1:7 says “That the trial (test) of your faith… might be found unto the praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:”

So, for the new year, when things are not going well.. think of it as a test. A test that will teach us to trust Christ even more.
