Who Shall Deliver Me?

Romans 7:24 says “O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death.” I. R. Clark said, “Paul did not say, “What shall I do?” He knew that he could not defeat the fleshly nature by himself and that no plan or program could help. Paul knew he needed the help of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I’m reminded of a helpless alcoholic who was told of an agency with a counseling program.

“Oh,” he said, “I’ve been counseled again and again and dried out many times. I’ve tried over and over to get clean. People have given me all kind of advice. These programs are really good. They help me a lot. Who will help and love me? Who will pray for me? I hope there are Christians there, cause they really love me.”

Well, he needed more than programs. He needed the Lord Jesus Christ, the source of love and the Saviour of the Christians who loved him.

If only the disheartened sinners and the defeated Christians of all the world could be persuaded to call on the one and only Saviour.
