The Resurrection was Necessary

The Resurrection was Necessary

“If Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain and your faith is also vain.”
1 Corinthians 15:14

The word “vain” here, has the meaning of worthless, no value or foolishness. The whole summary of the Christian faith is based upon the resurrection of Christ. All of our preaching is concluded with the fact that Jesus was raised from the dead. We are to preach the word of truth by which folks are saved. If we preach something that is not true then their belief is in vain. It is foolishness.

We preach His death, burial and His resurrection as it has been spoken of in the Old Testament and is fulfilled in the New Testament. Paul makes it very clear that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures.

Christ was buried, according to the scriptures. Christ rose again the third day according to the scriptures. Our preaching is based on the scriptures. We preach about the life of Christ, we preach why He came into this world. We preach what he commanded us to say. We preach the lifestyle that reflects His teachings. He commands us to preach it.

The believer’s faith is based on the scriptures. The believer hears the word and believes what’s being said. They place their faith in what Christ has told us to preach. Their whole life is based on what we preach. We can only preach that which is true.

So, when we preach that Christ died and was raised from the dead, it is according to the scriptures. Christ rose from the dead three days after His death. The apostles seen Him and He was seen by more than 500 people. Yes He died, but He did not stay there.

His resurrection gives the believer hope for life every lasting. Jesus said we will be with Him in heaven. Without the resurrection, the preaching we preach is foolishness. The words are just a joke. We lie and the truth is not in us. The world is without hope. The believer’s faith is in vain. The believer is still in his sins. The believer is now a false witness when he talks about Christ being raised from the dead.

“If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.” 1 Cor. 15:19
