Come To Me

But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
Matthew 12:28 KJV

When I read the words in this verse, I thought about the word “come.”  It is a spoken word from a person to another person the thought is, to get the hearer to leave his present place and to enter a place of the speaker.  There are several passages through the Bible where some was asked to come.  Where they were ask to depart where they were and  to meet up where the caller is.  Jesus gives us several reason as to why people are asked to come and I just want to touch briefly on couple.

  • Jesus call for Discipleship. Mark 10:21 “…. come take up the cross, and follow me.”  Leave what you are doing and be with Him.
  • Jesus call to give Knowledge. John 1:39 “… Come and see.” Teach us something we didn’t know before.
  • Jesus call to Satisfaction. John 7:37 “Come unto me and drink.” He will quench our thirst.
  • Jesus call to Fellowship. John 21:12 “Come and dine.” The Lord desires our company.
  • Jesus call to Refreshment. Mark 6:31 “Come …. and rest a while.” The Lord is wants to restore us.
  • Jesus call to Rest. Matthew 11:28 “Come unto me …. and I will give you rest.” He wants to ease our burdens.”

When Jesus calls us, He wants us to take that simple act of faith and come.  Not trying to makes ourselves look good or trying to appease Him.  He knows who we are and the condition we are in. So as the song writer says,

“Just as I am, without one plea,
But that Thy Blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bidst me come to Thee;
Oh, Lamb of God, I come.”
